An immigrant grandfather is faced with raising his 16 year old grand daughter due to a tragic car accident that takes the life of his only daughter and her husband.


Being an immigrant myself, we aspire to create stories that represent and resonate with us and hope this film will be recognized in the top 25 international film festivals in the world.


We are looking to raise a modest budget of $6,500 to help us towards production. All the Talent and Crew are offering there services for minimal pay because they believe in the project.

About The Actors 

Pepe Serna  (Alejandro / Grandfather) 

Durable Mexican-American actor Pepe Serna has appeared in more than 100 feature films and 300 television shows, but is most recognized for his gritty support performances in a variety of motion pictures, including Scarface (1983) as Al Pacino's ill-fated cocaine partner, as well as the western Silverado (1985) with Kevin Costner, the crime yarn The Rookie (1990) starring Clint Eastwood and Charlie Sheen, and the drama American Me (1992) starring Edward James Olmos. In a career surpassing five decades, Pepe's characters have played on both sides of the law -- from drug peddlers to sheriffs.



Izabella Alvarez (Camila / Granddaughter) 




Heralded as "a rising Latina star and promising young actress in Hollywood" by The Los Angeles Times, Izabella Alvarez possesses a commanding maturity and resolve which have garnered her praise for her work in film and television.


Alvarez will next be seen in The CW drama, The Republic of Sarah currently streaming on HBOMAX. In the series, she plays the role of 'Maya Jimenez,' a high school student who initially struggles to adapt to life in rural New England. 

For the past three seasons, she has voiced the lead character, 'Ronnie Anne Santiago,' in Nickelodeon's Daytime Emmy Award winning animated comedy series The Casagrandes, which revolves around Ronnie Anne and her big, loving, multi-generational Mexican-American family.


Her television credits include the award-winning HBO series Westworld and the Showtime series Shameless. 


In 2018, Alvarez made her big screen debut in the independent drama feature, Collisions. In the film, she plays the lead role of 'Itan,' a young girl who embarks on a cross-country quest to determine her mother's whereabouts and attempts to halt her deportation.


Alvarez was nominated twice in the category of Best Young Actor - Television in 2020 for her performances in The Casagrandes and Collisions and continued on to win for her portrayal of 'Itan.'


In early 2022, Alvarez will Guest Star on the acclaimed HBO original series Euphoria Season 2.



About the Filmmakers


Kevin Derek (Director/Producer)

Hey there! Kevin here! I live in Orange County, California 

I’ve studied under the tutelage of some of the best in the business beginning at Columbia College in Hollywood, earning my Bachelor of Arts degree in Motion Pictures. 


When I was only 20, I produced my first dramatic feature, The Final Incident, that ran for two weeks at the Laemmle Santa Monica Theatre. Film critic Emanuel Levy from The Village Voice called it “emotionally gripping” and “truly frightening.” My second credit as a Producer was The Ultimate Game, a Martial Arts action-adventure film, produced for the video market, and distributed worldwide. 


Also produced and directed the documentary "Empty Hand" about four competitors who train to fight against their toughest rivals as they struggle to become the next National Karate Kid Champion; it premiered at DOC NYC. 


My 2nd film "The Real Miyagi ", won 7 international film awards, starring Steven Seagal, Dolph Lundgren, Micheal Jai White, depicts the life of the greatest karate master of our generation. Was distributed by NETFLIX worldwide. 


My 3rd feature documentary, "Make America Laugh Again", opened theatrically in New York and Los Angeles with favorable reviews, also winning the Audience Award at CINEQUEST. Make America Laugh Again also qualified for the 91st Academy Awards in 2019. 


In 2021, I revisit Mr. Miyagi, this time with a documentary about the prolific actor behind the character, Pat Morita, with "More Than Miyagi" : The Pat Morita Story". Its available World Wide on iTunes, Amazon, VUDU and also is 100% on Rotten Tomatoes  


My latest feature documentary Pepe Serna Life Is Artis a one hour documentary about the life and career, told in his own words, best known for his roles in Scarface, Car Wash, Downsizing along with over 300 other films and T.V Shows. Staring Edward James Olmos, Eva Longoria and Cheech Marin. The doc is premiering at Oscar Qualified Palm Springs International Film Festival January 7, 2022







Oscar Alvarez (Producer)


Oscar Alvarez entered the film industry in 2004 when he earned the opportunity to work with Oscar® nominated Writer/Director, David O. Russell ( American Hustle, Silver Linings Playbook, The Fighter ) on his Iraqi War documentary, Soldiers Pay, as Production Manager. In addition, Alvarez oversaw day-to- day operations of Russell’s production company, Kanzeon. 


He remained with Kanzeon until late 2008 when he departed to produce his first independent short film by Writer/Director Peter Chen, Child Reduction Act .


In 2011, Alvarez partnered with filmmaker Kevin Derek to produce the award-winning feature documentary film, Empty Hand: The Real Karate Kids, cited in Black Belt Magazine as “A MUST SEE...the first real Karate movie in years.” In the following year, Alvarez worked alongside Production Designer/Producer Todd Jeffery (“Brockmire”) and Writer/Director Dustin Thomas Cartmill to produce cerebral comedy short The Wolf , starring Zach Cregger (“About a Boy”) and Caitriona Balfe (“Outlander”).


Alvarez reunited with Kevin Derek in 2013 to produce his second feature documentary film, The Real Miyagi featuring Dolph Lundgren, Steven Seagal, Fumio Demura In 2015 Alvarez sold The Real Miyagi to Netflix, securing a three-year worldwide distribution deal, streaming in more than 40 countries.


Most recently, Alvarez completed his and Derek’s latest feature documentary, More Than Miyagi: The Pat Morita Story starring Ralph Macchio, Martin Kove, Esai Morales, William Zabka, Tommy Chong, Efren Ramirez, Henry Winkler and James Hong among others -- a “who’s who” of stars. It was released worldwide in February 2021 to massive critical acclaim and fan enthusiasm; it is rated 100% on the TOMATOMETER® on Rotten Tomatoes


Alvarez and Derek have formalized their successful working relationship with the establishment of a production company called LOVE PROJECT FILMS.
